What if the door itself could be used to bridge the gap? It looks tall enough to do so.
So click on the string to take it, and then on the door again.
That'll get it closed, but if you were to ram or kick it now, it'd just burst open again.
Look along the left side of the door after it's closed.
There's a sliding bolt just above George's head level.
Use it to lock the door shut, then click on the door again.
George doesn't think to use force on the door when you click the "Open Door" action icon on it, so right-click on the door and see what all other available actions there are.
When you choose the gear icon, George will kick the door hard enough to knock it over and make a bridge for Anna Maria.
